9 Janvier. Left Florence 11 AM. Ar. Milan 11 PM. They neglected to call us at 4 AM. Consequently lost Bologna. However violent snowstorm would have prevented our seeing much of it. Travelled 2nd class, Z[ina] entertained & liking it, C[harles] catching cold again. Finally, changed to first class, leaving Z[ina] in 2nd. Train much delayed. Went to Hotel de Ville. Beautiful station in Milan & excellent arrangements at station & at hotel quite charmed us & restored our good spirits. Breakfast at Doney's cafe, Florence. Excellent coffee, 3 cups. 4 eggs shirred & 4 rolls for 36 cents.   10 Janvier. Left Milan 7 PM. Ar. Turin 11 PM. Perfectly charmed with Milan. Visited its wondrous cathedral, tomb of C Borromeo & Spire. Breakfast at Borsa. Bought handkerchief in Galleria Vittorio Emmanuele. Z[ina] saw necklace she died to get. Visited Gallery. Foolishly left in evening. Ar. in Turin Hotel Trombetta. One bed. To be called at 4 AM. Wine at Milan was Barbera of '48 very good indeed.
