3 Janvier Rome Another attempt by C[harles] to nurse his horrid cold. Z[ina] wrote letters & went on with chosing photographs. Father, Bertie & Mrs Parsons left for London. Z[ina] spent morning with Lane. Evening Lane in our room. Strange man says Z[ina]. 4 Janvier Rome Z[ina] went to Borghese gallery. Rainy weather. C[harles] agonizing over letter to Cardinal J. Antonelli Secretary of State & Prefect of the Apostolical Palaces. Z[ina] very naughty about it, almost driven wild by C[harles]. Called on Barnards. Mrs. very agreeable.
