Letter from Charles S. Peirce to Carlile P. Patterson

Steamer Suevia, 1877 Sep. 24

My dear chief

I expect to land in Plymouth this evening. I should go on to Cherbourg if any time were to be gained by it, but none can be gained. I hope to have a day in London as it is very desirable with reference to the publication of my logic. We have had good weather and I have been able to do a day's work every day, revising all the calculations of Berlin work. All the filets will have to be reread (which I have known for some time) as the error of reading is nearly equal to the error of observation.

I have brought them all with me and expect to get this work done cheaply in Germany.

Only 4 first cabin passengers besides me and I have had the smoking room all to myself throughout the voyage so that I made it my study.

            Yours very truly,

                       C. S. Peirce
