Letter from Arthur Searle to Charles S. Peirce
(Cambridge, 31.07.1875)

Harvard College Observatory
Cambridge, July 31, 1875

Dear Sir,

Your letter of July 17 is at hand. Many thanks for the information it contains. I found yesterday the synopsis of the observatory of double stars, and put it with the package of notes which I had found when last wrote to you. I had a proof taken lately of the printed part of the work.

I will write at once to President Eliot, who is not now in Cambridge, and request him to telegraph to you if he agrees to your plan for the photometric work, so that there may be no time lost.

Mr. Stevens tells me that your photometric observatory ought to be taken down and put under shelter to preserve it. I suppose a month at this season will make little difference so I will wait to hear from you about the matter. Perhaps you have instructed someone already to take charge of the building.

                                                     Yours respectfully,

                                                     Arthur Searle
