1875 October, 7
My dear Sir, I wrote to Charles S. Peirce on the 29th inst., asking for his pages of the Almanac for 1879, & enclosing data for Saturn's Rings. Supposing him to be in Cambridge, I directed the letter to him there; but have since learned that he is abroad. Please let me know if he is expected back in time to do this work before January. If not, I should like to have the data for Saturn's rings returned to me. Vty, J. H. C. Coffin Benjamin Peirce |

I have no idea where the papers upon Saturn's rings are. It may be that they are already on their way to my son in Europe. If they reach him I do not see why he cannot make the computations there and send you the results in full time |
for publication. I always direct to him care of McCulloch, Puleston & Co., 41 Lombard Street London England.
My dear friend, your power of prediction as the chief of the Nautical Almanac is indisputable, but when you write me on the 9th of October that you have sent my son a communication on the 29th instant, your powers of anticipation can only I think be equalled in Erin's fair isle. I will enquire at the Post Office and try to set matters right, and feel sure that you will not permit the mere accident

of Charlie's absence from the country deprive him of this work with you. He must have leisure enough in Germany to do the work as carefully as if he were at home.
Very faithfully Your friend Benjamin Peirce Professor Coffin |
