Letter from Benjamin Peirce to Carlile P. Patterson
(Cambridge, 31.08.1876)

Spanish translation & annotations

Cambridge, 1876 August, 31

My Dearest Chief,

I have always regarded it as field work when it requires the organization of a party however small. The accident of an officer's living near his own home does not seem to me to invalidate the claim for field work, so that while Charlie is actually swinging a pendulum, which is proper legimate field work at the present time, he is in the field.

Yours very faithfuly,

and respectfuly

Benjamin Peirce
Consulting Geom.

Hon. C. P. Patterson chief
Etc. etc. etc.
