My Dear Chief, Charlie has written to ask me to contribute two articles to his book on the Pendulum in the Coast Survey 1st a generous discussion of the effect of communication of vibrations and 2nd the theory of the swing. The first I will certain undertake, and will send it to the office within 5 months —and the second will try to get done— but will not promise. Best love to cousin Lizzy. Your ever faithfully Hon. C.
