Tue 1/17/71
Geneva-Berne

Left Geneve 11 ½ AM. Ar. Berne 5 ½ PM.

After dreadful cunctations to which we have been subjected all the time at the Hotel des Bergues, we finally did get off. Train started late & went slow so we missed connection at Berne. Our Bädeker being lost we stumbled into the finest hotel we have ever been in, the Berner Hof.

In pocket 520 fr.

Wed 1/18/71
Bern-Basel

Left Bern 1 ¾ p.m. Arrived Basel.

Spent morning looking about Bern. Funny fountains. One with ogre, another with bear, etc. Bears everywhere. Bought one. Saw clock strike. Bears & a cock. Visited cathedral. Gothic in its decadence. Not cruciform. Some fine old glass & curious door. Also catholic cathedral miniature of Rheims. Bern very interesting town.

At Basel put up at Trois Rois.
