Cambridge, May 7th 83

My dear Juliette,

Your voyage is now over & I imagine you comfortably established for your visit to your native country, your childhood's home. It must be very interesting to find yourself once more among those familiar scenes & if as I fondly hope your health is improving & your family & friends cordial & loving how much you will find to enjoy. I have so long since abandoned the full use of my pen. I am really so physically weak to say nothing of the

condition of my mind, that writing letters has become a serious burden to me. But I am so anxious to know more of you & to receive tidings of you & my dear Charley that I gladly make the effort required to write these few lines. I do hope I may ere long have good news of you both. I trust that when your wanderings are over you may come back strong & well & happy. Then if I am still here, I shall see & know you & we shall have you & Charlie with us for a time. But our home is so changed from the dear abode of love

& joy & all high delights which it was when He was here who lightened every burden with his ready help & strong arm & made sunshine for us by the beautiful spirit of love which always swayed & moved him! We are very dull & grave now but you & Charlie can bring us from La belle France a breath of brightness & I shall look forward to it as a delight still in store for me.

Take good care of yourself meanwhile & believe me

affectionally your new -though old-

Mother
