Letter from Edward C. Pickering to Charles S. Peirce

April 13th 1877   My dear Sir, Your note of the 6th. inst. duly arrived, but in it you omitted to answer my question regarding the present condition of your work on "Photometric Researches". Will you kindly inform me whether any is in type beyond page 176. Also how many more pages will be required to complete the volume? If you have no time to devote to editing the remainder of the work, I will see that it is

properly attended to, if you will send me the remainder of the copy. Early publication seems desirable, especially as it should precede Volume X which will be issued very shortly. To avoid delay, I have written to Engelmann to know how far he has completed the portion already in his hands. I hope Volumes VI, VII and VIII will reach you promptly.
