Computing Division, C & G. Survey July 7, 1883 Richard D. Cutts Assist. in charge Office of Sup't Dear Sir I herewith respectfully submit Mr. Faquhar's report on his examination of assist. Peirce's M. S. on pendulum results at Allegheny, Ebensburgh and York, Pa. and which you referred to me for the purpose of stating whether or not its immediate publication in the Report for 1882 would be advisable. I came to the conclusion that it could be saw satisfactory not only to the survey but also to assist. Peirce to postpone the publication of the M. S. until its author had a chance of revising and completing it. This would not delay it long & the resulting ¿? lengths & heights of the stations as well as the relation of the length of the pendulum to metre 49 could be given; but what may be considered the more serious difficulty i.e. what values or observations should be rejected & what which correction respecting flexure should be made, has most influenced me in concluding that in my opinion the paper be not now printed. I would also suggest that Mr. F's detailed report be submitted to the Sup’t. Yours respectfully,
