Letter from Charles S. Peirce to Julius E. Hilgard
(Berlin, 14.07.1875)

Spanish translation & annotations

Berlin 1875 July 14

My dear Sir

I hear from Cambridge that the college Librarian says that when I left I did not return a book designated as "Legendre".

My impression is that I sent to the Coast Survey Office among a lot of books belonging to the library 3 volumes of Legendre’s

Fonctions Elliptiques and that I thought they belonged to the C. S. Possibly however they belonged to Harvard College Library. Will you please ascertain & if the mistake I suspect was committed will you kindly have them sent to the Harvard College Library.

Yours respectfully,

C. S. Peirce

Prof. J. E. Hilgard
Asst in charge U. S. Coast Survey Office

P. S. I shall bring home a line metro which has been accurately compared at different temperatures with the Prussian Normal Metre, the lenght of which relatively to the Paris metros is not accurately known
