December [?] 1875 My Dearest Chief, Can it be that your last letter to Charlie has miscarried? We always direct to the care of his London banker: Pulleston, MacCulloch and Co. 41 Lombard Street London England. A short note from Charlie dated Paris Nov. 12 is still desperate from not hearing about his funds. He has spoken of having to different bankers for different classes of expenditures. The one is the Baring's —represented by Ward of Boston in New York— the other is Pulleston, MacCulloch and Co. represented by Foote and French of Boston— it seems to me |
an unnecessary complication. Mr. Ward tells me that they have received funds from the office —But I suspect that Foote and French are still without them.
Perhaps Mr. Hein's trouble with his eyes has obscured the matter, or Charlie in his Spartan merits made not have pulled unfolded his ideas. I have written him to this effect. Benjamin Peirce
