Article / History of the Telenovela in Spain: Learning, Essaying and Appropriating a Genre.

Abstract /

Currently, the telenovela is a format that has an installed place in television schedule. It serves to structure relevant home-grown productions. That is why this paper reflects on the evolution of this genre in the Spanish case. Different stages in its development will be described, starting with the release of Latin American telenovelas and ending with its redefinition as a home-grown model. Afterward, we will explain the processes and resources it uses in order to adapt itself to national audiences.
