Article / The perennial problem of televised football in Spain: a historical perspective of the fight for Professional Football League (LFP) TV rights .

Abstract /

During the last 20 years, main TV stations in Spain have fought for the Professional Football TV Rights. This economical and political issue was decisive in the development of spanish televisión and recent audiovisual legislative initiatives. However, this is not a new phenomenon. Since the birth of television, the role of football has been crucial. This text is a historical overview of the conflict of televised football and it will allow us to obtain significant conclusions on today situation. Besides, this article gives us some clues about the future of TV sport programming in Spain.
