Article / Journalistic ethics: praxis, dysfunctions and challenges from the perspective of communication professionals in the Community of Madrid (2006-2009)

Abstract /

The results of 30 depth interviews and 410 surveys to journalists from press, radio, television, digital media and communication offices practicing in the Community of Madrid (Spain) show that the ideal of objectivity is still pursued, that the informative contrast remains still the way to get to the truth, and that the information protagonists should be respected. The dissent on the coverage of disadvantaged groups, the strong pressure of the advertising industry and the growing ideological and political influence on the media are also highlighted by the professionals. In this context, independence, responsibility and personal ethics are considered essential to daily confront ethical dilemmas.
