Article / The Exploration of Fantastic Universes in Literature and Film

Abstract /

For over a century from Peter Pan to Terminator 4, fantasy adventure has become a popular hybrid genre into film and literature. In this article we propose to clarify its generic entity and realize its defining features. To reach these aims, this discusses nuclei contributed by the two tributary genres, adventure and fantasy, both specified as a journey of exploration and the experience of wonder. At the same time is considered the dramatic complementarity of two genres at first sight incompatible, one oriented to a physical universe and another to imaginary worlds.
