Article / The Evolution of the Professional Attitudes of the Nicaraguan Journalists

Abstract /

With the arrival of full democracy and press freedom in the 1990s, Nicaraguan journalists have begun to confront new professional and ethical questions. This article examines Nicaraguan newspaper journalists’ professional attitudes and shows that Nicaraguan journalists are turning to outside influences to help them learn the best way to do their jobs in this new era of freedom and globalization. Using survey, participant-observation and interviews, this study supports the idea that journalists who have entered the profession in the 1990s differ in their professional attitudes from their co-workers who began in a different era.
