Article / Journalistic strategies of opening and resistance in an authoritarian public space: the cases of Madrid (Spain) and La Opinión (Argentina)

Abstract /

The newspapers Madrid (Spain) and La Opinión (Argentina) represented two outstanding examples of critical press under authoritarian regimes. Both of them were closed down in the seventies and became points of reference for their respective forthcoming democracies. In this article we describe the different strategies that they used to open the restrictive public space in which they were envolved. Through a comparative analysis of their actions and relations with the political powers, we identify several strategies that we have divided into two groups according to their nature: "political-journalistic" and "proffesional".
