Epileptogenic Cortical Dysplasia

From: Tassi L et al: Brain 2002;125:1719-32

Taylor-type cortical dysplasia has abnormal cortical lamination always associated with giant neurones; dysmorphic neurones and large ectopic neurones in the white matter. Balloon cells may or not be present.

Coronal T1-weighted IR TSE MRI in a patient with Taylor-type cortical dysplasia, revealing abnormal thickening of the right frontal cortex and blurring of the grey–white matter junction (arrow) T2-weighted FLAIR MRI in a patient with Taylor-type cortical dysplasia, revealing hyperintensity of subcortical white matter, tapering to the ventricle (arrowhead).
