The Master’s Degree in Secondary Education is the only official university degree program that qualifies individuals to work as teachers at all levels in secondary education, vocational training and language teaching.
The purpose of the program is to provide advanced and thorough academic and professional training so as to meet social needs in key areas relating to secondary education.
The overall objective is to provide education professionals with the knowledge and skills required to carry out outstanding work in the areas of teaching and guidance. This high standard of excellence rests on the firm conviction that teaching work is of great social importance and involves the provision of an indispensable service.
The significance of the Master’s Degree program is reflected in the following:
- The increasing demand for teachers in secondary education institutions;
- The need to improve the training of future teachers as articulated in recent legislation (Spanish Education Law, articles 94 and 100), which is based on data from White Paper research on professional opportunities for graduates as well as the experience of those who were awarded previous teaching qualifications
- Close ties with educational centers, which ensure that the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills encompassed by the program meet the needs of the workplace, and enable further cooperation in the improvement of educational practice.
