Letter from Charles S. Peirce to Carlile P. Patterson
(Boston, 28.09.1876)

Spanish translation & annotations

Dear Captain

I saw Eliot the other day & he said he had sailed this summer over nearly every page of the Coast Pilot and found it admirable. He said it would do us much more good with the people than the charts. He likes

contour lines without harsness.

He says no solution of the question of a director of the Observatory has been approached to.

With best regards to Mrs. Patterson & Miss Patterson believe me, my dear Chief

very faithfully yours

C. S. Peirce

Capt. Patterson
Washington

P. S. I find Bessel has not got that correction unless it is concealed somewhere very oddly. And I find another one besides that which he haven’t got. So I am going to make a good thing of it.
