MEET
THE DEAN
Dear friends,
Welcome to the University of Navarra
School of Communication.
Through this window we would
like you to get acquainted with our day-to-day life
at the School, and invite you to take part in it. Life
here is simultaneously professional and academic. Scientific
reflection and news analysis continually mingle with
practical work carried out under the guidance of experts
who share their knowledge with staff and students.
Our
School of Communicationwas the first center in Spain
to offer Journalism at university level. Ever since
1958, in what was then called the Institute of Journalism,
the University of Navarra has been training communications
professionals with the thoroughness and precision expected
at university level.
Excellence and constant updating
of knowledge are the objectives of the research and
education of our teaching staff. On the staff we have
directors of the foremost international associations,
such as the World Association for Public Opinion Research
(WAPOR),
the European Communication Research & Education Association
(ECREA) or
the International Association for Media and Communication
Research (IAMCR).
The School also employs visiting professors of prestige
from American and European universities, i.e. University
of Missouri, George
Washington University or Université Paris
12 Val de Marne, and first-class media experts
from the BBC, Tiempo
BBDO or the Globomedia production
company.
As we realize the impact of the
media on society, the School aims to prepare professionals
who will uncover and convey the truth without fear, while
appreciating the responsibility they owe to society,
and the importance of the service they offer to the public.
The Christian ideals that lay down the guidelines and
define the University of Navarra help to underscore the
importance of our preparation for the development of
professional skills and competence and personal integrity.
Thus,
together with an accurate and sound knowledge of politics,
marketing, fiction, entertainment or audiovisual esthetics,
to mention but a few of our traditional subjects, we
demand excellence and truly professional work. The School
offers the students direct contact with the media through
its broadcasting station: 98.3
Radio, its production
company: Euroview, its news magazine: Nuestro
Tiempo or its advertising laboratory El
Estudio. It also guarantees
practical work placements during the summer months in
any one of the 300-plus Spanish and foreign companies
with which it has agreements.
The
School also offers a post-graduate program: a Master’s
Degree in Media Management, which prepares management
staff for the media; a Master’s Degree in Political
and Corporate Communication, in collaboration with
the George Washington University; and the Doctoral
Program in Communication, which
received a Quality Award (Mención de Calidad) in
2005.
In these few words it is impossible
to describe the quality and variety of the work carried
out at our School. Please accept this invitation
to visit our website and see for yourself what we have
achieved in this center in our almost 50 years of
history.
Welcome. Please come in.
