Joaquín Navarro-Valls received
the Licentiate in Medicine and Surgery in 1961 and the
Doctorate degree in Medicine with the thesis entitled “Psychiatric
disorders as a result of craneal traumatisms”. In
1968 he was awarded the Licentiatein Journalism from the
University of Navarra.
From 1984 to 2005 he was director of Press Office of the
Holy See. He likewise participated in the international
conferences of United Nations in El Cairo (1994),
Copenhagen (1995), Pekin(1995) anad Istanbul (1996).
Among
other posts, he was founding member and assistant editor
of the journal “Diagonal” (1964); foreign
correspondent for the Madrid newspaper “ABC” (1977-1984)
in Italy, the Equatorial African countries, Japan and the
Phillipines. He was also president of the Italian
Foreign Press Corps in 1983 and 1984.
He received various
condecorations and distinctions, such as the Gran Cruz
de la Orden del Mérito Civil and
the Gran Cruz de Isabel la Catolica. He is author
of the following books: “La manipulación publicitaria”(1970), “La
familia y el mundo actual” (1976), “La familia
y la educación” (1978), and “Fumata Blanca” (1978).
