Economics, Sport and Intangible research group, ESIrg
Francesc Pujol and Pedro Garcia-del-Barrio are the founders and leaders of the Economics, Sport and Intangible research group. The aim of this group is to foster the research and dissemination of knowledge concerning the measurement of intangibles, applied to the field of professional sport. We have developed an innovative methodology allowing to provide quantitative measures of media value of players and teams, based on the index of popularity and notoriety. ESIrg owns and develop a unique data set concerning media value measurements of each player and teams of sports competitions in football, basketball, tennis, Formula 1 and golf. The treatment of these exclusive data sets provides material to explore new questions in the field of economics and management, and more specifically in economics and management of sport (marketing, sponsorship, players and team valuations, industry analysis). The production using this material has generated papers published in international academic journals and reports widely reproduced by national and international press coverage. ESIrg will continue to develop its activity in the incoming years.
