ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (ALL FIELDS) UNIVERSITY OF NAVARRA
Position Type: Assistant Professor
Categories/Specialties: Any field
Deadline: 2012-11-30
Interested candidates must send their applications electronically through the Job Market Website.
Description
The School of Economics and Management of the University of Navarra is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Professor (equivalent to "Ayudante Doctor") for the academic year 2013-2014. All fields of specialization will be considered. The primary selection criteria will be the potential of the candidate as researcher and teacher in the various programs that the School offers.
Contract
The initial contract will be for a year, annually renewable during a total of seven years. After three years, a first evaluation will be performed. If the evaluation is positive, then renewals will continue. During this period of seven/eight years, a final decision will be made about offering a formal, long-term contract (although any assistant professor may request that this decision be taken prior to the end of the full seven-year term). Evaluations and decisions will be based on the research quality of the candidate and on his or her satisfactory performance in teaching tasks.
Teaching
The normal teaching load is 3/4 courses per year, normally taught in two sections of two different courses. This equals, approximately, six class hours per week.
Some administrative tasks also form part of the normal work load, although recently-hired professors are typically assigned lighter tasks.
Classes are taught in Spanish and English. Professors whose native language is not Spanish are generally assigned to the English program. All Doctoral courses are exclusively taught in English. The University offers courses, via its Institute of Modern Languages, to help those candidates who wish to learn or improve their Spanish.
Salary
The University of Navarra is a private university: the salaries are comparable to those of other Spanish and European universities, in countries such as France or Great Britain. The University Hospital of Navarra, an institution famous for its quality of service, has a special agreement to provide health care for the members of the University Faculty.
Application process
Interested candidates must send their applications electronically. Please include a cover letter, an up-to-date curriculum vitae, and a publishable journal article as a research sample. Candidates must also provide three letters of recommendation, sent to us by persons who know the candidate and can give us information about his or her capacity and competence. The names and contact information of the people who write the letters (preferentially academics) should be included in the curriculum vitae. Interviews will be held during the XXXVII Symposium on Economic Analysis (Vigo, December 13-15, 2012). The deadline for sending application is November 29, 2011. After the interviews, selected candidates will be invited to visit the School and give a presentation about their current research.
