Structure of the Degree in Biology

The degree in Biology at the University of Navarra is adapted to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).

The degree consists in 240 ECTS credits, taken over the course of four academic years. The curriculum is divided into modules designed to achieve a complete and highly practical formation in the fundamental aspects of biology, including: Cell Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Genetics, Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Animal and Plant Physiology and Ecology
.

• The Tools of Biology Module provides formation in the relevant aspects of chemistry, physics and mathematics needed to understand biological processes and living things, as well as how to apply the techniques of observation, measurement and experimentation in biology. In addition, this module provides the essential skills used in laboratory activities, bibliographical and biotechnology techniques.

The Structure, Development and Function of Living Things Module addresses the fundamental concepts of cell and tissue biology as well as the functional elements of organisms and microorganisms and their adaptations to natural surroundings.

 • The Molecular Basis of Living Things Module provides formation in the biochemical and molecular bases of biological systems (the structure and function of biomolecules, the metabolism and regulation) and the principles of genetics.

• The Origin, Evolution and Diversity of Living Things Module examines evolutionary aspects such as the biodiversity of plants, animals and microorganisms.

• The Population Organization and Ecosystems Module provides formation in geology and physics so as to understand the relationships of relationships of living beings with their environment.  (This module also examines
the interactions between organisms and their environment.)

• The Humanities Formation and Professional Values Module includes subjects of humanistic content and seeks the integral formation of students, giving them the ability to make judgments on relevant social, scientific or ethical issues.

• The End of Degree Project is a mandatory, individual project worth 12 credits.  It offers students the opportunity to apply and integrate knowledge acquired throughout their education.  This project is designed more than anything to professionally prepare students.

In-Program Electives make up 36 ECTS credits of the degree, allowing students to deepen professional knowledge relating to biodiversity and the environment, biology or biomedicine. In addition, up to 9 ECTS credits are given for internships and up to 6 for participation in extracurricular activities.
