The ESP Special Interest Group was created in 1993 at the request of many professionals who work in the field of Teaching English for Specific Purposes. This includes those who teach English for Academic Purposes (EAP), English for Occupational Purposes (EOP), English for Professional Purposes (EPP) and English for Vocational Purposes (EVP), as well as those who teach English for other specific purposes. There are more than 330 individual members and about 80 institutional members worldwide.
What are our aims?
To encourage professional development and the exchange of ideas among ESP Practitioners of all kinds throughout the ELT world.
What benefits do we offer?

The Newsletter. The ESP SIG Newsletter is published 3 times a year.

IATEFL Annual Conference. The ESP SIG organises its own track of
presentations, workshops and discussions.

IATEFL SIG Symposium. Every two years all IATEFL SIGS combine to host a
SIG Symposium and the ESP SIG has its own track of activities.

SIG Events. Half-day, one-day or longer ESP events can be organised
wherever there is evidence of sufficient demand. Recent events have been held in the UK and in Germany.
