The Technological Campus of the University of Navarra in San Sebastián
Founded in 1961, it is the 4th oldest School of Engineering in Spain, following Madrid, Bilbao and Barcelona.
Today it enrolls 1,200 undergraduate students in five degree programs: Industrial Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Materials Engineering, Electronics and Automation Engineering, and Systems and Industrial Engineering. In addition, 110 graduate students perform doctoral studies. Over the course of 45 years, 4,500 engineers have graduated, and 280 doctors.
The CEIT research center
In 1982, the University of Navarra created a legally independent research entity: the CEIT, where the faculty performs applied research. The CEIT has a dual purpose: promoting research –through public and private financing- and forming young researchers.
The CEIT has five areas of research: Materials, Electronics and Communications, Mechanics, Environmental Engineering and Microelectronics. Currently, it employs 149 persons, of whom 105 are researchers, and 77 of those have Ph.D. degrees. In addition, the Center hosts 112 student researchers in order to provide formation in research (of these, 96 are working on their doctoral theses).
The scientific activity of the CEIT permits the simultaneous development of some 120 R&D projects, which produce, on average, 60 publications per year in international journals, another 60 presentations of papers in congresses, six patents, and 15 doctoral theses.
Out of the research activity of the Technological Campus of the University of Navarra there have arisen 8 technologically-based businesses, or spinoffs, which have their headquarters in Gipuzkoa and which today employ close to 180 persons.
