The primary activity of the Institute, which motivated its founding, is research undertaken on the basis of an interdisciplinary and humanistic point of view. Our publications, teaching and outreach are nourished and motived on the basis of this primary activity. Our research is undertaken in three distinct phases, which are closely related:
A.- On the one hand, there is the research undertaken by each of the members of the Institute, in their own area of study, or which is of professional interest. Within this research activity, there is also included that which is undertaken by the graduates students, who work under the direction of their research directors.
B.- Research undertaken institutionally, on interdisciplinary topics which are proposed each academic year, and which is performed through the framework of the Permanent Seminar. This Seminar has, since its beginnings, constituted the origin and root of all the activities of the Institute.
C.- The research undertaken on specific topics, which is performed through working seminars held from time to time, on topics which are of interest to a group of researchers of the Institute. It is through this type of seminar that it is most feasible for researchers belonging to other institutions to participate in the work of the Institute.
