The European Center for Injury Prevention joins the launch of the Decade of Action for Road Safety

Pamplona, 16th May, 2011.-

Last May 11, The European Center for Injury prevention joined the global launch of the Decade of Action for Road Safety by holding an open-day session at the University of Navarra.

One of the main activities was a guided tour of ECIP´s biomechanics laboratory, where material and component-level mechanical testing of biological tissues and biomedical devices are conducted. Apart from ECIP´s staff and other professionals within the field, members of the Government of Navarra responsible for road safety and Police chiefs were present. Dr. Forman, ECIP´s Deputy Director, gave the tour of the laboratory facilities, along with a presentation of past studies carried out by ECIP’s researchers in the area of injury biomechanics.

The session also included a poster exhibition, held at the Science Library building lobby, with information on the Decade of Action, as well as information on ECIP´s activities and products (download some of the posters). The aim of this exhibition was the promotion of “Action” among the numerous students who visited.

In addition, ECIP´s offices were open to anybody interested in the center´s research or getting more information on road safety issues, a serious problem throughout the world. Finally, in an effort to increase people’s awareness of the burden of road traffic injuries, the "Time for Action" video by the World Bank was viewed.
