The Licentiate in Law is a degree which is officially recognized and regulated by the Government of Spain. In order to obtain this degree, the student must pass 319.0 credits (each credit consists of approximately 10 hours of class time), which are normally taken over the course of four academic years. The courses are distributed as follows: 28 core courses (229 credits), 4 required courses (22.5), 4 in-program electives (24), plus 44 credits from open-elective courses. The core and required courses are required of all students; each student is allowed to choose his or her own electives. The various Diploma programs use these elective credits in order to fulfill their requirements.
