Objectives

The mission of the "Philosophy and Economics" research group is to study the philosophical theories about man and society that underlie economic theories.

Since the mid 19th century, economic theory has been presented as if it were a "natural science," with its own, objective laws, that has nothing to do with the way in which man understands himself and the world in which he lives. This research group proposes to shed light on how different philosophies have influenced economists’ way of thinking.

This group came about as a result of the research and teaching activities of the Chair in the History of Economic Thought of the University of Navarra. It is a multidisciplinary group, open to economists, historians, philosophers, ethnologists, jurists etc. In general, the group is open to all those with similar ideas on the complicated issues of the economy and the economic activity of different peoples and cultures over the course of history.
