This course is an introduction to the English-speaking world. It gives special attention to the constitutions, politics and society of Britain and of the United States. Particular attention is paid to the United States Constitution and to the principles behind it. Other subjects included in the course are: the media in Britain, Scotland, Northern Ireland, British elections, and the British Parliament.

In addition to political and social subjects, there will be practical work on English language, using the recommended text (Recycling Your English) by Clare West.
