COURSE DESCRIPTION

Through the RF Measurement lab course students are meant to learn how to operate and configure the RF equipment used for measuring and characterising high frequency circuits. The RF equipment to be configured consists of the Vector Network Analyzer (VNA), the Spectrum Analyzer (SA) and the RF signal Generator (SG).

RF equipment will be configured and operated by characterising several devices: a filter, a low noise amplifier (LNA), a passive mixer, a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) and a resonant LC network. The latter will also be designed and implemented.

Finally, after the students have learned how to operate the different pieces of measurement equipment, these will be connected to each other and to a PC, so that the different measurements will be carried out once again, but this time round automatically, by controlling the RF equipment through the HP-VEE software of Agilent Technologies.

Before the students can actually handle the RF equipment in the lab there will be a couple of theoretical lessons in which the internal operation of the various pieces of measurement equipment will be described.
